We were at the Art Labs stalls again today. It was the last day of the SYF Celebrations and the entire place was bustling with activity, but today seemed like the activities were more catered to families. We had the Flower Power booth that had our student facilitators teach visitors how to make paper crepe flowers, and the Pop-Up Prints booth that allowed visitors get their hands on pulling their own silkscreen prints. It was the first time our students got to mend a silkscreen printing booth right after learning the technical skillls of the craft. The students learnt how to engage the crowd and created their own system to printing, washing, drying, and ironing to make the prints pop up (emboss). All in all we had a great time. Thank you SYF for selecting these proposals! Thank you all students for the hard work! It was our first day setting up booths for the Art Labs on Day 2. Our 'Body Art' booths, both Paintdom and Henna Montana were very well received and popular - what's more it's free! Photos by Ms Xie Shangyi, Mrs Esther Tan and from SYF facebook page The Henna Montana (Henna painting) station was got visitors curious as our students propped up a screen made of cloth to separate the painters from the visitors. In this sense the painters are hidden from view (the students also think that this helps to hide the logistical mess at the stall. There are holes cut in the screen the will allow visitors' hands to be put through for henna designs to be applied. There's the surprise element as the visitors will not know who will apply henna on their hands!
It was so fun that our students wanted to do it again tomorrow! But tomorrow comes with another bunch of art lab booths to engage the public with art, and another two groups from NYGH teaching different techniques. We hope to see you there! We have 4 artworks created by our very own AEP and ART students on display in the Exhibition segment of the SYF 2014! They are scattered in the different venues, LASALLE College of the Arts, and other participating libraries.
