Modernising and Localising the Masterpieces
Sec 3 AEP
This series of work sets out to see the masterpieces through the students' eyes.
After a museum visit to the National Art Gallery, the Sec 3 AEP students are made to put themselves in the shoes of Singapore Pioneer Artists, to think critically how they would paint the today's world if they are still alive.
Surrealist artist, Rene Magritte, is famous for his illogical juxtaposition of objects. With art history references at the back of their head, students attempt to make sense of Magritte's work by literally returning theses objects to their "rightful" context.
These exercises created opportunities for critical thinking and reflection on old master pieces, hence making art history closer and more relevant to life.
